RURAL SERVICES » Cambridge Pumps and Filtration Cambridge Pumps and Filtration has built a strong reputation by advancing technology, continuously adapting to new regulations, and embracing growth opportunities, like the recent surge in uptake of water filtration options with impending regulatory changes, as well as strong growth in the solar pumping sector. With new Drinking Water Standards for New Zealand coming into force in November 2022, Cambridge Pumps and Filtration has seen a significant increase in demand for water filtration solutions, especially for properties that supply drinking water to workers and businesses. Managing director Sean Bovill says these new regulations have made filtration a crucial part of his business. “Compliance deadlines are still a couple of years away, but many property owners are already taking proactive steps to meet the new standards,” he says. “We have responded by expanding our filtration services and improving monitoring systems to ensure both safety and water quality.” Cambridge Pumps and Filtration has also seen strong growth in the solar pumping sector, particularly for lifestyle blocks, dairy farms, and dry stock farms in remote areas. As farmers fence off their waterways, it has become necessary to pump water to areas that were previously naturally supplied. Cambridge Pumps and Filtration has been at the forefront of providing reliable solar-powered pumping solutions to meet this demand. “Solar technology has come a long way in recent years,” Sean says. “Some of the older solar pumps, which are 12 to 15 years old, have been replaced with modern systems that offer variable flow rates and greater efficiency.” Unlike conventional home systems, solar pumps typically do not include battery backups due to cost constraints. Instead, Cambridge Pumps and Filtration designs systems with extra storage tanks placed on higher ground, ensuring a steady water supply even when the pump is not running. Fortunately, the highest demand for water coincides with sunny weather, when solar pumps operate at peak efficiency. Since taking over the business in 2016, Sean has maintained the company’s strong foundation, while strategically expanding into new areas. “We’ve always been involved in water filtration, but as the industry has evolved, we’ve been able to grow with it,” he says. “Being a small family business with a farming background, we understand the importance of high-quality drinking water and the challenges that businesses face with regulatory changes.” Founded more than 30 years ago, Cambridge Pumps and Filtration has retained a loyal customer base, with Sean and the team ensuring a seamless transition after acquiring the business and continuing with specialised services like trenching and deep well lifting. Looking ahead to 2025, Cambridge Pumps and Filtration are planning further expansion. Sean is in discussions with industry contacts which could present opportunities to take on additional customers. This potential growth, particularly in the solar area would likely lead to hiring one or two additional staff members to manage the increased workload. “Right now, we’re focused on navigating the economic challenges that are affecting many industries,” he says. “It has been a slow year for some sectors, and we’re aware this may impact us down the line. However, we remain optimistic and committed to providing the best service to our customers.” Visit us at WWW.ARGON.NZ Phone: 0508 634 341 email: sales@argon.nz Pumps, Fans & Electric Motors Since 1988 Submersible Pumps Washdown Pumps Vat Wash Pumps Bore Pumps Pressure Booster Systems Hydropak-Xtra pressurised, clean water for your whole house Cambridge Pumps and Filtration has also seen strong growth in the solar pumping sector, particularly for lifestyle blocks, dairy farms and dry stock farms in remote areas.
