78 | nzdairy RURAL SERVICES » Nind Dairy Services Trusted name among Southland dairy farmers Richard Loader For over 18 years, Nind Dairy Services has been a trusted name among Southland dairy farmers, offering a full suite of services tailored to the evolving needs of the industry. However, the roots of the business extend much further back. Established in 1977 by founder Ron Nind, the company began as an electrical firm. Over the decades Nind steadily grew, expanding its expertise and workforce. In 2007, a pivotal transformation took place when Nind Dairy Services was formed within the larger Nind Group. Recognising the growing demand for integrated dairy solutions, the company brought in engineers and transitioned existing electrical staff into the new dairy division. This expansion soon incorporated plumbing, further strengthening its service offering. Today, Nind Dairy Services is a pioneer in delivering ‘turnkey’ solutions for dairy sheds, allowing farmers to access a comprehensive package from start to finish. The business has flourished, now employing 37 staff members in the dairy division and a total of 150 across the entire Nind Group. “In the past, we were reliant on the progress of the tradespeople we didn’t provide in house, and it had the potential to really impact us,” Managing Director Nigel McClymont says. By bringing more services in-house, the company has streamlined its operations, ensuring efficiency and quality control across all projects. With its headquarters in Invercargill and satellite offices in Winton and Balclutha, Nind Dairy Services now operates through four key divisions: electrical, plumbing, engineering, and automation. This holistic approach allows them to tackle nearly every aspect of a dairy shed build or upgrade - only builders fall outside their scope. In past years the company would complete upwards of 17 dairy upgrades in a year. Those days are long gone now, nowadays focusing more on repairs and maintenance, along with crucial upgrades such as shed renovations, effluent system improvements, cup remover installations and cow collar installs. “It helps having the four divisions in one,” Nigel says. “There’s nothing we can’t do.” Some of the more recent standout projects are Abe Dewolde and Stu Cameron’s new 54-bale rotary sheds complete with GEA farm equipment; and Bruce Dinnington’s fully robotic dairy shed, PPP Nind Dairy Services is a pioneer in delivering ‘turnkey’ solutions for dairy sheds. grain systems and the countless number of MSD Sensor Hub drafting gates and cow collar installs. Beyond cowshed upgrades, Nind Dairy Services has also been involved in series of solar initiatives aimed at enhancing farm sustainability. The company’s reputation is further bolstered by strong partnerships. Nind Dairy Services is a premium master dealer for Davey Pumps - the largest dealer in New Zealand - as well as the country’s largest dealer for MSD animal health (sensorhub), where they install Allflex and Protrack gates along with wearable cow collars. 100% NZ owned, supplying air compression equipment to the dairy industry for over 70 years.
