Kelly Deeks Staying ahead of potential issues can mean the difference between efficiency and costly setbacks in the dairy industry, so MilktechNZ is helping farmers take a proactive approach to milking performance through innovative technology and forward-thinking design. MilktechNZ general manager Kevin Warner and CEO Gustavo Garza each bring years of expertise in electronic engineering and product development. Their passion for improving dairy technology has driven MilktechNZ to introduce cutting-edge solutions aimed at increasing reliability, performance, and automation in milking systems. “Many of the existing technologies in the industry are outdated,” Kevin says. “We’re using modern design tools, modern molding techniques, and modern electronics to create tools that are more reliable and efficient for farmers.” One of MilktechNZ’s flagship products is the CR-1 electronic cup remover, which incorporates the latest wireless technology to streamline the milking process in both herringbone and rotary cow sheds. Beyond that, the company is now actively developing new tools that empower farmers with real-time data on their milking machines and herd health. “We’ve been developing a device that monitors milking machine performance in real time,” Kevin says. “Farmers typically rely on an annual calibration test, but equipment can gradually drift out of spec in the months between checks. Our system continuously measures machine performance and alerts farmers if any part of the system isn’t functioning correctly.” The implications of such technology are significant. If cows are not milked properly, it can lead to health issues and decreased productivity. The goal of MilktechNZ’s innovations is to maintain high standards of animal welfare while also improving operational efficiency for farmers. Another technology in development by MilktechNZ is a milking sensor capable of measuring milk volume, temperature, and conductivity. By aligning this data with an individual cow’s history, farmers can detect early signs of mastitis or other health concerns before they become major issues. Additionally, temperature readings help assess wash performance, ensuring bacteria levels remain under control. “We’re focused on helping farmers be proactive rather than reactive. By catching potential problems early, we’re giving them the tools to maintain herd health and maximise efficiency.” Unlike other companies that rely on traditional market research and focus groups, MilktechNZ develops products based on real-world experience. Kevin, Gus, and the MilktechNZ team spend considerable time troubleshooting on farms, allowing them to identify pain points firsthand and tailor their solutions accordingly. “We live the same challenges farmers face,” Kevin says. “We’ve seen what works and what doesn’t, and our approach is to design products that are upgradeable, adaptable, and able to evolve based on farmer feedback.” 21 Springford Street • Machine Testing • Plant Service • Rotary and Herring Bone Call Geoff Shaw today on 027 539 3809 PROUD TO SUPPORT MILKTECHNZ LTD Dealer for: Independent Registered Milking Machine Tester with over 20 years experience in the Dairy Service Industry. Employees share a passion for innovation, and ideas often emerge from casual conversations about on-farm challenges. “Some of our best ideas come from bouncing around ‘bad’ ideas until something great emerges. That usually happens on a Friday afternoon when we’re reflecting on the week’s challenges. Before we know it, we’re still in the office at 7 p.m., figuring out how to make it work.” MilktechNZ is proudly New Zealand-owned, with a commitment to setting industry standards both nationally and internationally. As the company continues to innovate, its goal remains the same: to build lasting relationships with farmers by delivering technology that enhances efficiency, reliability, and overall dairy farm performance.
