Last year, one of their top cows Charbelle Tatoo Pix, scooped the coveted Beledene Shield to be named the supreme champion cow at the Stratford A&P Show late November. “She’s from a family that we are very proud of, our ‘P’ family that is quite well know now,” Annabelle says. “That was her second consecutive year being supreme champion there. Also she was supreme North Island Holstein Friesian two year’s running, so she’s certainly a cow that we are definitely proud and she’s right in the heart of our ‘P’ family and her relations are definitely breeding on well, which is nice.” Charbelle Tatoo Pix was also the Holstien Friesian supreme champion at the Waikato A & P Show early November and has won a string of awards during the past five years, including as all breeds junior champion at the Stratford A & P Show and at the New Zealand Dairy Event. “Her daughter, Charbelle Hero Popcorn, is the 2025 New Zealand Dairy Event Junior Interbreed Reserve Champion and junior champion Holstein so that’s pretty exciting, she was exhibited by my daughter Gabrielle.” These cows maternal bloodline comes from Charbelle MWB Prancer who unsurprisingly has also won a long string of awards. “She was basically the cow that got us back into the showing. We had a bit of time off when I studied and had a family and she did well herself, and then breeding on.” Cows winding way to shed. Cherelle Tatoo Pix’s sire Duckett Tatoo is well known internationally. “He has sired many daughters in New Zealand and overseas as well. She’s five year’s old now and is classified as excellent.” ‘Excellent’ is the highest classification a Holstein Friesian cow can have and this requires score of 90 or higher on a dairy cow’s classification scale. This means a cow must have calved at least three times, be in their third recorded lactation and be at least four years old. Charbelle Tatoo Pix has three daughters, of which Charbelle Hero Popcorn is the youngest. One of her sisters, Charbelle Tatoo Promise was the first-placed junior heifer calf at the 2025 New Zealand Dairy Event. “It’s great to see that family is still doing really, really well. For Pix, we hope to get her out in the show ring next year again, she’s carrying quite an important pregnancy so hopefully we will get another heifer calf on the ground from her.” Annabelle and Stephen have four children and sharemilk 400 cows on 180 hectares Tahuna. The herd comprises about 300 Friesians which are all registered, plus 70 Jerseys and 50 crossbreed cows. The couple are experienced sharemilkers, but it is their first season on this particular farm. Annabelle is serving her second three-year term as a Holstien Friesian New Zealand (HFNZ) board member and is a World Wide Sires New Zealand breeding consultant, has a strong interest in HFNZ Black & White Youth and is chairwoman of the Discovery Project, a joint initiative between HFNZ and LIC. “The objective of the Discovery Project is to support the opportunity for breeders, through advanced breeding technologies, to develop top cow families and breed bulls for the AI industry”. “She was basically the cow that got us back into the showing. We had a bit of time off when I studied and had a family and she did well herself, and then breeding on.” Kintail Transport Specialised livestock transport KenWalker 027 887 5050 ken@kintailtransport.co.nz . .
