Fluid. Conveyance. This is Keeping Dairy in Motion From milk tankers and rotary milking sheds to milk powder drying and cheese packaging lines – Motion supports the dairy sector with certified products, food-grade lubrication, and practical engineering that lifts uptime and lowers total cost of ownership. New Zealand dairy runs on reliability. When a pump stalls, a hose fails, or a gearbox overheats, the ripple e ects can hit collection schedules, product quality and export timelines. Motion’s role is to keep those risks out of the process – by pairing certi ed products with on-the-ground technical support and a relentless focus on uptime. “In New Zealand, dairy has got its own set of requirements for its approvals for products that go into that dairy sector,” says Neil Hulme, General Manager – Industrial Products at Motion. “Those expectations can be di erent to other food categories. Our job is to understand the requirement and plug in the right, compliant solution.” Lubrication is a prime example. “We’ve got food-grade lubricants that are manufactured in facilities that run the same requirements as a dairy factory,” Hulme explains. “That’s clean-room environment, the products going into the lubricants are of a set standard. And we’ve even got some food-grade lubricants that become part of the food product through a process.” For operators, the bene t is twofold: audit-ready compliance and longer, cleaner-running assets. Dairy is also where Motion’s scale and depth show up most clearly. “It is probably our example where we’re most fully involved in the sector,” says Courtney Ireland, General Manager – Value Added Products. Dairy is massive for us. We work very closely with our customers across multiple locations – driving consistency of application, process, and plant maintenance.” That reach extends from farm gate to factory. “Whether it is the transfer hose on the milk tanker or the milk reception bay at the factory, we have worked with our customers for many years to re ne process to optimise functionality and uptime” notes Ireland. Motion supplies and services rotary milking shed gearboxes, washdown hose, hygienic hose assemblies for factory processes, couplings, bearings, power transmission, and the consumables that keep maintenance teams moving – backed by nationwide workshops and branch inventory to reduce wait times. Beyond supply, Motion leans into asset life extension. “We’re working actively with customers to ask, ‘How long can we extend the life of this product, or can we maintain it di erently in the interim to maintain uptime?’” says Ireland. “In one current test, a hose that’s typically replaced every eight years is being evaluated for a ninth, based on manufacturer evidence and eld data.” That work goes straight to the bottom line through fewer change-outs, better planning windows, and less reactive downtime. Proactive design is part of the DNA as well. As Hulme puts it: “It wasn’t Fonterra that came to us and said, ‘We’ve designed this milk hose.’ It was us that went to them and said, ‘We’re constantly evolving the hose.’” That trusted-advisor position – bringing improvements to the customer, not just responding to faults – has helped Motion introduce better hose constructions, smarter lubrication strategies, and installation methods that improve hygiene and service life. In an industry that can’t pause for breakdowns. Motion helps keep dairy moving.
