For JEH Grazing and Livestock Ltd founder Jim Hazlett, success has been built on trust, transparency and long-term relationships – values that have underpinned the business since he struck out on his own ive years ago. After spending a decade with another livestock agency and many years before that farming in North Canterbury, Jim has developed extensive experience across sheep, beef and dairy support enterprises. That practical farming background, combined with years spent working alongside farmers, gave him the con idence to establish JEH Grazing and Livestock. Today, the business has grown to employ four sta , servicing farmers across Canterbury and, when opportunities arise, throughout New Zealand. "I have the utmost appreciation for the sta , and the quality of work and experience they provide," Jimsays. While JEH Grazing and Livestock works with all classes of livestock, dairy has become an increasingly signi icant part of the business, particularly through its expanding dairy grazing division. From sourcing young stock grazing and winter grazing to buying and selling dairy livestock, service bulls and dairy beef-cross animals, JEH Grazing and Livestock o ers a comprehensive service designed to make livestock management easier for farmers. Jim has a particular passion for the growing beef-on-dairy sector, working with cattle from just four days old through to weaned calves and on to growing and inishing stock. His understanding of every stage of the production cycle allows him to provide practical advice while matching stock with the right rearing, grazing and inishing opportunities. And at the heart of every transaction is a commitment to transparency. "We take pride in o ering a service where farmers know exactly what's happening with their livestock," Jim says. "Clear communication and honest transactions are the foundation of long-lasting relationships." One partnership that re lects this philosophy is the company's long-standing relationship with Culverden’s Harakeke Farm, contract milked by Jaspal and Ruby Singh. The connection began around a decade ago when Jim worked with the farm's previous owners, handling their bobby calf programme. As ownership changed and the business evolved under Jaspal and Ruby's leadership, so too did the services JEH Grazing and Livestock provide. What started with bobby calves grew into managing cull cow movements, before expanding further to include shifting sale calves and sourcing winter grazing. Today, Jimmeets regularly with Jaspal and Ruby throughout the year, ensuring they have the livestock support they need while maintaining the close working relationship that has developed over many years. That willingness to grow alongside clients has become a de ining characteristic of JEH Grazing and Livestock. And the business is equally passionate about investing in the future of the dairy industry: as proud sponsors of the Canterbury/North Otago region of the New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards, Jim and his team enjoy supporting young, ambitious farmers as they build their careers. For Jim, success follows a simple formula: look after the livestock and look after the people. “We aim to build relationships that support competitive, and repetitive, work,” he says. Building relationships that last • Successful and lasng grazing management. • Buying/Selling all classes of livestock. • Efficient and mely farm to farm transacons. • Compeve and prompt processor procurement. • Canterbury Wide We will look after it for you. He has steadily increased production from 340,000kgMS to 347,680kgMS over the past four years, and they have achieved 100% milk excellence certification from Fonterra - not once, but twice. “When I look at where I am now, I feel proud of how far we have come, but also clear about the next step,” Jaspal says. “The goal is no longer just to operate a farm well, but to move toward equity growth and eventually farm ownership, building something long-term for my family.”
