Rather than viewing culture as a by-product of success the Mid Canterbury dairy farming business has made it the foundation of every part of its operation, believing strong people create strong businesses. “I am passionate about the culture side of the business because it builds a strong team and foundation and that drives strong performance. Culture is an incredibly important piece of the puzzle if you want to be an employer of choice. We know our people really well - not just our people, but their families too. It is from that genuine connection that our culture is built.” That philosophy extends well beyond the business itself, which includes six dairy farms and a support block around Ashburton and Hinds. While many companies focus primarily on their own success, Rylib deliberately invests in strengthening the wider dairy industry, recognising that developing talented young people benefits farming across New Zealand. “We have a real passion for growing young people,” says Libby. That commitment is reflected through its Lincoln University scholarship programme, which supports students building careers in agriculture. Originally created to help employees’ children through university, it has evolved into a broader initiative aimed at developing future industry leaders.
