Canterbury-based NZ Flow Group is aiming to make that responsibility simpler, providing specialist flow meter services, data monitoring and compliance management across the region. The company services Canterbury wide with the farming community its biggest client. Its services include supplying, installing, servicing flow meters and flow meter verifications as well as managing the data and reporting requirements associated with water consents. NZ Flow Group works with all major brands and types of flow meters including electromagnetic, ultrasonic and mechanical meters. “We’re known as the flow meter specialists,” says director Phil Cuff. “We are the service provider for all the city councils in Canterbury so we get called out when there is an issue with data coming through from a flow meter. We’ll go and see what the issue is and rectify it.” For farmers however the technical work is only part of the picture. NZ Flow Group also monitors flow data and reports it to Environment Canterbury (ECan), dealing with the regulatory authority on customers’ behalf when required. “For farmers dealing with ECan is at times stressful and time consuming,” says Phil. “If there is an issue on a consented site we let ECan know what is happening and fix the issue. It reduces stress for farmers.” The company deliberately developed its data monitoring service with that wider goal in mind: helping farmers meet their obligations while improving the relationship between consent holders and regulators. “We wanted to change the way things are done in this industry so farmers get value for money and to help minimise the environmental impact that bad data can cause,” says Phil. Its cloud-based monitoring platform provides real-time flow information, data storage, reporting and alerts. The team can track verification schedules and notify customers when meters are due. This means farmers do not have to keep every compliance date and reporting requirement in their heads. NZ Flow Group also has a sister company, NZ MechTech, which provides engineering, welding and fabrication services when additional work is required. Business partner Steve Beek established NZ Flow Group in 2014 and brings around 30 years’ experience in instrumentation including flow meters and sensors. Phil, a mechanic by trade, joined the irrigation industry more than a decade ago and is mostly out in the field carrying out service work. With all field staff Blue Tick accredited and the business holding SiteWise Gold accreditation, NZ Flow Group combines technical expertise with a straightforward approach. “We want to make water compliance as easy as possible for farmers,” says Phil. “We can take care of the technical side, the data and the reporting, so they can get on with running their farms.” We provide end-to-end flow meter supply, installation, verification and data management for irrigation, municipal and industrial water users across New Zealand.
