We wanted an insulated roof in the dairy because I know what it’s like to stand in a dairy with condensation. He took that idea and made it work.” It was the same for Robert and Fleur Scurr, of Taurima Farms, in Otago’s Outram, who were impressed by Eyrewell Dairy’s colour and finish. They built their own new 54-bail rotary for their 820-cow herd this year. It also includes some customised additions. “Our experience was great,” Robert said. “Because RBS are a specialised shed builder, they really focus on that instead of us installing a new dairy, and getting a random shed builder to cover it. The shed is a crucial part of the project and we’re really proud of it. Everything under their control was done to the highest quality, and the example they set made all the other tradesmen lift.” Nigel said it’s easy when their clients are great operators. “There are a lot of good people in our industry, many of whom we are proud to call our clients. Word of mouth brings most of our business – that’s the way it works in the country,” Nigel said. “We also find that a lot of our jobs are repeat business. This is because we approach each shed as a partnership project. Our typical clients value planning and are in it for the long term.
