Business did slow down a little but Chris says after initial adjustments there’s been plenty of work. Chris Perrett Electrical Solutions extends its service offerings over a large area of South Taranaki, from Hawera to Opunake, Waverley and Stratford. One thing that has changed since a year or so ago is that the team is now smaller but, Chris says, still doing the same amount of work as the larger crew did. “We are looking at taking on another staff member but we’re careful about who we select. I’m looking for the right work ethic and being a good team member. In our line of business and the work we do, those attributes are essential.” Being involved in the local high school’s Gateways Programme has opened up opportunities for the students and for Chris alike, as he explains. “I’m all for these programmes. They are a great way for students to get a taste of real work in a range of industries and to discover whether electrical work is for them. Likewise, I get the chance to see them working, with a view to a student or students being offered employment when they nish school.” And while the bulk of work is still on farms, installing electrical systems to milking sheds, feeding technology and ef uent management, Chris says that work has slowed up a little. Turning toward doing more commercial work has kept the team busy. “I think we will see an upturn though in farm work again as the milk pay-out means farmers have more cash to spend on upgrading or replacing plant.” • to page 81 Chris Perrett Electrical Solutions extends its service offerings over a large area of South Taranaki, from Hawera to Opunake, Waverley and Stratford.
