The team has already been diversifying into beef for a number of years, and this latest acquisition will allow them to further expand on that, only on a bigger scale, in addition to its existing dairy operations further north. Rogan says the beef market is strong at the moment, so it makes good business sense to do so and to have ‘eggs in different baskets’. Rogan is the fifth generation to live on the Borrie family farm, 10 minutes outside of Oamaru. This winter was relatively dry in that part of the country, so Rogan is feeling positive about how things are shaping up in the lead-in to summer. Formerly a sheep, beef and cropping farm, it’s now a 248 hectare irrigated run-off. The home farm runoff winters up to 1400 dairy cows, 500 bulls and is used in summer to make silage. With multiple properties, there’s plenty going on to keep his sharemilkers and the rest of the team occupied Rural Livestock Stock Agent Barry Matthew is also highly supportive of Rogan’s move to up beef production and always works hard to get Rogan the best deal he can from the works.”We only buy farms that we feel we can really add value to and this is definitely one of those, “ Rogan says. There’s a fair bit of work involved especially early on, but transforming these into productive and successful operations is very rewarding.” “My oldest boy Blake is working for Harry Dennison on a dairy farm down the road, so he will be involved in the set up at Clydevale.” Craig McMillan 027 855 2401 www.heliventuresnz.com • Spraying • Bulk / Bagged Fertiliser • Scenic Flights • Filming & Photography • Seeding • Mustering • Animal Control • Frost Fighting • Power Lines • Precision Lifting • Hunting / Fishing Servicing Otago, South Canterbury & The Mackenzie
