Right from his early apprentice days Warren has worked across a variety of construction types. Warren says: “Since the age of 16, I’ve always worked on residential, farm and rural, and light commercial projects. I work in both the town and country, and I can pretty much build anything.” A registered certified builder who grew up on a dairy farm, Warren understands how cows move through a shed and knows how to design and build dairy sheds that work efficiently for both the livestock and the farmer. Today, Warren and his wife Sandra lead a team of seven across their two businesses - W.D. Davenport and DavenHomes. They take pride in seeing many of Warren’s former apprentices become qualified builders - some even going on to establish their own successful businesses. With a strong focus on rural construction, W.D. Davenport builds a wide range of structures for farmers, including rotary and herringbone dairy sheds, farm buildings, hay and feed barns, palm kernel and silage bunkers, feed pads, hydro ponds, horse stables, implement sheds, and more. A recent project completed seven weeks ago saw Warren design, and the team build a brand-new 36-a-side herringbone dairy shed for Rose Farm. The eleven-week build also involved dismantling the old cow yard. The old rotary shed was then converted into a new calf shed. More than 18 suppliers and contractors were involved in the Rose Farm dairy shed project. The shed was drafted by Warren’s daughter, Michelle Corlett, from Footprint Drafting. Excavation and major earthworks on the existing site were completed by McPherson Contracting of Matamata. Morley Engineering Services supplied the milk plant machinery, while Rural Engineering handled the pipework and steel structure. King Electrical took care of all electrical work, and Brownmore Construction managed the concrete placing. With a strong focus on rural construction, W.D. Warren and his team will reconstruct the foundations, reassemble the house, and carry out on-site renovations. W.D. Davenport offers construction using Metra panels and the Metra Construction System. Strong dairy payouts, high export prices, and recent drops in interest rates are driving demand. W.D. Davenport is currently handling three new dairy shed enquiries, alongside other ongoing projects and tenders. Looking ahead, Warren says: “We want to continue business as usual. We want to keep focusing on building dairy sheds and agricultural buildings. We want to keep going for a while - we don’t want to retire yet.”
