Longevity speaks to its enduring reputation Karen Phelps Milnes Transport Limited has built its success on the confidence customers place in its ability to deliver. “We cart high value animals and it’s a lot of trust our customers place in us. You really have to prove you can do the job and do it well and so the fact our customers choose to use us speaks volumes,” says company co-owner Mike Lindstrom. Having been going for decades, it was started as JR Milne & Son before being sold in 2013. It is now owned by Peter Stevenson, Mike Lindstrom and Brian Adams, who have continued the tradition of reliable service that established the business’s name. Operating nationwide, the Isla Bank based business provides livestock cartage across New Zealand, moving animals of all types. “We will move anyone’s stock anywhere within New Zealand. We have overnight yards so we can hold stock for farmers if need be. We cart all sorts of stock - cows, bulls, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, ostriches, dogs, you name it,” says Mike. The diversity of the fleet reflects the varied demands of the industry. Milne Transport favours Scania but also had Isuzu, Nissan and MAN and boasts a fleet of around 19 trucks. It also has a JCB Fastrack tractor for fertiliser spreading, a blower truck, auger truck, bulk trucks, stock trucks and dropsiders. This range of vehicles enables the company to handle everything from bulk stock food to fertiliser applications, with constant investment in new fleet ensuring it remains competitive. In order to offer farmers a comprehensive service the company also has a muck spreader and a slurry tanker for spreading effluent for farmers. Fertiliser application is another service. “Our JCB leaves a lighter footprint, particularly at the start of the season when the ground can get soft. We have GPS tracking for proof of placement and are a Balance and Ravensdown consignment store. So we have the products at our yard, which means a quicker service for farmers as they don’t have to order and then wait for it to arrive.” Mike says that what sets Milnes Transport apart is not just its fleet but its people. The company employs around 20 staff, including office personnel, two dispatchers and drivers. “They are all very experienced and some have been working here for years. Without them and the support of our great clients the company wouldn’t be where it is,” says Mike. “Our JCB leaves a lighter footprint, particularly at the start of the season when the ground can get soft. We have GPS tracking for proof of placement and are a Balance and Ravensdown consignment store.” Gore Winton Queenstown Balclutha Wanaka Alan Macdonald Jack Perniskie Alice Perniskie Erin Howes Caleb Macdonald Stephen Kornyei Pleased to support Milnes Transport WVTWinton Vehicle Testing 03 236 8702 BOOKINGS: 03 236 8701 wintonvehicletesting@xtra.co.nz 35 Winton-Lorneville Highway, Winton 9270 • LOCAL & NATIONWIDE LIVESTOCK CARTAGE • FERTILISER SPREADING • BULK CARTAGE • SPREADING, SPRAYING, SLURRY & MUCK APPLICATION WITH OUR JCB • BLOWER TRUCK • GRAVEL FOR LIVESTOCK GIVE MIKE LINDSTROM A CALL 027 960 2788 FOR BULK & SOWING GIVE TEGAN RACZ A CALL 027 564 4313 The company prides itself on one key differentiator that has built customer trust over the years, a can-do attitude, which Mike says is reflected in the company’s approach to service delivery. “We have a good reputation in the region for being competitive, efficient and delivering on time.
