Last year, Mainland Engineering completed a big sheep milking pro- ject for the Onuku Maori Land Trust near Rotorua that included steelwork for yards, a 72 bail rotary platform, installation of pump and water system, feed system, backing gates and milking machines. “The sheep milk industry is getting some traction now. We have another five sheep milking shed projects on the go this year.” One of Mainland’s strengths is that farmers are able to get everything they need with one company, rather than having to work with multi- ple service providers. “We have a good working relationship with our customers and have people on-call 24 hours a day – seven days a week – to ensure farmers can always keep milking their cows, sheep and goats.” Mainland Mechanical joined the line-up two years ago, offering a full range of automotive services for farm cars and utes. “A lot of farmers are buying older Pajero, Hilux and Suzuki vehicles for the farm. We can do Warrant of Fitness, tyres, servicing and repairs – including on farm – and can tow vehicles to the workshop if needed.” Mainland Engineering employs a skilled team of 20 and uses a cloud-based system (AroFlo) to track job and project management, maintenance programming, invoicing and quotes. “We have well-equipped premises, a modern fleet of service vehicles and have put a lot of investment into management software and GPS systems to ensure we operate as efficiently as possible.” The main challenge ahead relates to steel supply delays associated with Covid. “People do need to be organised and plan ahead as much as possible.” Photos: Mainland Engineering’s mechanical division can do Warrant of Fitness, tyres, servicing and repairs – including on farm – and can tow vehicles to the workshop if needed.
