So it’s nice to be in it, realizing it’s not at all doom and gloom. Farm ownership is the end goal. And I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to go contract milking, in two to five years, on my current partner Joshua parent’s farm. He’s amazing with Arlo.” After completing level 3 last year in Agriculture Dairy with Primary ITO, she’s now studying level 4.Besides the job, women’s rugby, touch rugby and indoor netball keep her fit. “And I’m a real morning person and in bed by 7.30-8pm if possible. I love my sleep.” She has just stood down from two years as Young Farmers South Taranaki Chair, and is Vice Chair for Taranaki and Taranaki-Manawatu region, and the Awatuna catchment community Young Farmers representative. “I get to talk to farmers and make catchment decisions - it’s so much fun.” Jacinta believes her confidence has contributed to success. “The key is to constantly be able to react to situations. My practical skills are quite high, as is my community involvement.” She cites many people as have positivelyinfluenced in her dairy career, especially Donna – who has just won Fonterra Dairy Woman’s network National leadership award. “When you want to put yourself out there, and do well in this world, it’s amazing how many people want to help you and push you along – it’s insane!”
