It was one such relationship that saw the company recently build a new 54 bail rotary dairy shed for a client. “We had upgraded their old herringbone shed twice over the years so when they decided it was time to invest in a new shed we were happy to be able to assist,” says David Roache. Roache’s Concrete Products undertook the entire project from design to build. David says the typical process is that Roaches Concrete Products meets the client on farm to discuss their needs and requirements, then utilising its experience built up from multiple projects, a draft drawing is done from which to base construction drawings in-house. “The thinking behind a new cowshed is no small undertaking,” says David. “Great care and thought is required to firstly design and secondly build to the specifications. This needs to take into account not only the current needs of the herd and the farm but also future proofing for growth. We customise each project to suit the client’s specific needs. In this case they wanted a high lift gate, a green and clean flood wash system and easy access to the plant room so they could get a forklift in to be able to move drums of detergent around.” He says that in this case the client was more hands on and wanted to do their own site work, something Roaches was happy to accommodate. It then worked in with the client to complete the shed build. Family owned and operated, Roache’s Concrete Products has grown from small beginnings in the mid-1950s to its present operation today. Started by David’s father, it was in 1971 that David and wife Pauline bought the business. The company continues to be a family business with their son Dean involved for over thirty years and son-in-law Kurt clocking up over twenty years - both specialising as top site managers. David’s sister Frances handles the complex office administration along with daughter Amanda. Dean’s son Jacob has now joined the team making it the fourth generation of the Roache family name being involved in the business. Roache’s Concrete Products offers a range of services including constructing cow sheds, herd barns, stock underpasses, silage pads, feed and storage bins along with any other construction needs that the farm requires.
