Owner Nathan Hitchcock has been involved in dairy milking systems since 1998 as an agricultural engineer, and funded his OE by installing milking plants throughout Wales, Scotland and England for Waikato Milking Systems. He returned home in 2005 to start the dealership in Inglewood, which partners with Waikato Milking Systems, cementing an enduring relationship until the present day. Moa Milking has had the pleasure of installing the new milking systems around the world and earlier this year Waikato Milking Systems launched the new ErgoPOD onto the market, so the Moa team headed to the Czech Republic for the first offshore installation. The ErgoPOD has been described by Inglewood’s Levi King as “the closest thing you can get to robots without having robots.” Delivering cost effective solutions to dairy farmers across New Zealand, Moa Milking & Pumping provides only the highest quality of milking systems, dairy components, water and effluent systems. “The on-farm infrastructure has grown so much in the last 10 years because of regulatory changes and technological advancement,” Levi said. Stringent new regulations from councils means the company needs to stay on top of its game, and some of the new GPS systems used for effluent disposal enables companies to meet their obligations easily. At its Stratford branch, manager Steve Bruce said compliance to meet new environmental standards has seen effluent management at the top of the farm priority list. “Non-compliance can carry the sanction of massive fines or even dairy companies refusing to collect milk. Installing effluent and water systems has become a large part of the workload of Moa Milking & Pumping and with it the need to have specialised gear in the installation process.” As more farmers properties have grown, the company has also assisted and worked with clients on their amalgamation. “This has led to new sheds being built and the efficiency of rotary platforms to milk larger herds has seen a quantum shift in most sheds.” Steve said automation in the form of electronic cup removers, drafting and auto wash systems were all geared up to help farmers milk more numbers in an efficient manner, and reducing a lot of guess work that probably occurred in the past. In 2021 Moa created a new sister company, Moa Rotary Platforms - specifically dedicated to servicing and installation for Waikato Milking Systems. The company also services all makes and models North Island wide from their Inglewood and Matamata branches.
