Cows are also dried off early when needed to ensure what Kuljeet calls “a good holiday period” before calving. Kuljeet’s background in business and accounting gives him a strong grasp of the financial side of farming. “I can calculate things pretty easily,” he says. “I know what we’re putting in, what we’re getting out, and whether it’s worth it.” With milk payouts fluctuating season to season, Kuljeet focuses on the variables he can control to maximise margins.
