We keep it simple as possible: just silage, maize and palm kernel.” The barn plays a central role in delivering that system. Feed is brought in daily, with cows receiving supplementary maize and palm kernel when pasture growth is strong. During drier summer and autumn periods, cows are brought into the barn straight after morning milking and fed more intensively, ensuring condition and production are maintained regardless of conditions. The barn has delivered practical, day-to-day benefits. It has simplified management, improved flexibility and made life easier - particularly for the spring calving herd, which is housed full-time from dry-off through to calving. The business itself has also evolved, with the two farms now operating under a company structure.
