Over recent years, the importance of industry leadership and collaboration has become increasingly evident as farmers and rural professionals work through evolving freshwater policy, environmental expectations and increasing climate variability. In that environment, practical industry-led guidance and technical support have become more important than ever. Water management beyond irrigation IrrigationNZ works across a broad range of water management issues. While irrigation remains a core focus, the organisation’s work also increasingly spans water storage and conveyance infrastructure, irrigation system performance, and the wider interface between water infrastructure and farm environmental management. That includes involvement in areas linked to Freshwater Farm Plans and the practical implementation of emerging freshwater regulations. Modern farm water systems are becoming more integrated and technically complex, requiring strong understanding across soils, hydraulics, nutrient management, infrastructure performance and environmental outcomes.
