Maria Cooper, is a senior lecturer at the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Education and Social Work. She researches and teaches on educational leadership, early years curriculum, Pasifika learners, and infant-toddler pedagogies. She has a Samoan/Czechoslovakian heritage, enjoys spending time with her three teenage children, and was born and raised in Auckland. Valunui Fitu Ah-Young, is an active Executive Board member of the ECC. Over 20 years, Fitu and his wife, Sue, have been involved in ECE. Fitu and his wife, Sue, operate five purpose-built ECE facilities, fully equipped, resourced and licensed services in Wellington and Auckland. He holds a Bachelor of Education Adult Education from Massey University and a Master in Educational Leadership from Auckland University of Technology (AUT). He is a Director, of Solve Education Ltd, trading as Pasifika Early Learning (AoKids) and a Director of Empower Management Ltd trading as Solve Consult. Both Directorships, are focused on governance, professional learning and development and mentoring leadership. Ina Fautua, is a qualified Speech- Language Therapist (University of Canterbury) and member of the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association. She is an innovative communication practitioner with a Master of Management in Communication (Massey University). These skills and practices are used in her current role, creating a unique organisational brand “Ao Kids” for PEL (Pasifika Early Learning). Her work is informed having lived and worked in USA, South East Asia and throughout the Pacific region, namely Melanesia and Polynesia. Born and raised in Lower Hutt, she now lives in South Auckland with her husband, a retired Ambassador of New Zealand and teenage son. March 2021 { 20 }
