Introducing - Trace Moroney Talking about Feelings Tell us about yourself … I was born, raised, and currently reside in the biggest little country — New Zealand. The first 10 years of my life were spent in rural NZ . . . bare feet squishing in fresh, warm cow poo (or using dried-up ones as frisbees) and games centered around, under, over, through — or holding on to — electric fences. On reflection, great analogies for dealing with some situations and people in adulthood! I am: an author, illustrator, designer, company director, student, animal-lover, Mother, chief toilet cleaner . . . amongst other things. I am empathetic, self-deprecating, optimistic, highly motivated and selfdisciplined, a chronic over-thinker, easily stressed . . . and a work-in-progress! I am NOT: tolerant of abusive or cruel people. My office is currently in my home, where I generally work seven days a week (would like eight if possible!), and can be found in bare feet with two naughty little pugs (aka: poo-bags) ‘snorting’ from both ends! What kind of books for young children do you focus on writing and illustrating for? The picture books I create fit within the emotional literacy genre. Through carefully chosen words and thoughtful illustrations I translate complex information related to emotions into language that children can understand. The books focus on describing feelings or experiences and shares information and skills to help children (and grown-ups) identify and manage emotions in a healthy way. Why have you focused in this area of emotional and social intelligence development in young children in your stories? The initial impetus for my early work in emotional and social development was born from my own journey in seeking mental March 2022 { 30 }
