The Easter Bunny Hunt Written by Stacy Gregg Illustrated by Sarah Jennings HarperCollins; RRP: 19.99 Paperback A fun and interactive book for young tamariki as they help Cat and Dog find the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny Hunt is the sequel to the popular picture book, In or Out, which too features Cat and Dog, and caters well for our youngest book lovers, with its descriptive text and use of repetitive language and phrases (and great too for beginner readers). The illustrations are cute and fun and add to the calamity of the search. A great Easter book for tamariki 2+. Fast, Slow. Let’s Go! Written by Sally Sutton Illustrated by Brian Lovelock Walker Books; RRP: $27.99 Hardback Fast, Slow. Let’s Go! is another fun and catchy book which is perfect for reading aloud to some of our youngest audiences and again great for newly independent readers. The catchy tune, although different, reminds me of one of Margaret Mahy books, A Summery Saturday Morning. Fast, Slow. Let’s Go! borrows from the childhood song, ‘This is the way …’ as children scoot, bike, bus, sail, run and ride their way to a birthday surprise. Along with the catchy tune are the play on words that rhyme, describe and explore onomatopoeia (words that sound like the thing they describe) For tamariki 2+.
