NANNY MIHI’S MEDICINE / NGĀ RONGOĀ A NANNY MIHI By Melanie Drewery Illustrated by Suzanne Simpson Translated by Kanapu Rangitauira Oratia Books; RRP: $19.99 Paperback As a fan of Nanny Mihi’s books both her previous series and her latest I couldn’t wait to read this book to tamariki and widen our discussions and ideas on how the ngahere and Tāne-mahuta can provide a variety of different plants with many usages including medicine. My high expectations were met as I read the conversational text that flows gently with ease as you read out loud along with the bright illustrations that just ‘pop’. This latest edition is bilingual with the English text still having the occasional te reo Māori phrase, which of course can be expanded for those with some knowledge of te reo, with the Māori text on the opposite page to the English text. A more comprehensive description of these plants and their uses is in the rear of the book. For tamariki 3+. September 2022 { 40 }
