Swings + Roundabouts Summer 2020

Borman Village Kids is located in Flagstaff, Hamilton. It is positioned on the edge of a retail development that includes a medical centre, cafe and supermarket, which provides families convenience when picking up and dropping off their child at the centre. Across the road is Te Ao Marama School, a public - private high quality school with incredible facilities and resources. Most of the children that attend Borman Village Kids will attend Te Ao Marama School. We have a strong relationship with the school, principal Tony Grey was instrumental in establishing this while the school was in development. Some of their teachers have children at the centre, our preschool room team leader is on the board at the school and our preschool children get to visit the school regularly. Borman Village Kids is committed to providing the best early childhood education for each child in our care. What is important to us is that parents have a voice and that we listen and reflect each family’s values and aspirations for their child. We aim to create a community of partnership between families and teachers where parents and children feel supported and can thrive. We foster a culture of genuinely caring for our staff, families and children. Our staff are supported to reach their potential through ongoing professional development and reflective practice. We foster a fun, positive team environment CENTRE PROFILE: BORMAN VILLAGE KIDS and staff are encouraged to have a healthy work-life balance. Specific focuses included providing quality infant care, toddler transitioning and a preschool programme. Borman Village Kids employ qualified early childhood teachers to meet the 100% government regulated, minimum adult to child ratios. Borman Village Kids is privately owned and operated by centre director Todd Painter who has 20 years’ experience in the early childhood sector. Todd also provides support to other early childhood centres mostly in centre-based administration, systems, governance and management. There has always been the discussion about private operators providing care and education in early childhood but for Todd he feels that for a non-compulsory sector that is before school along with regulation and competition that an element of private operators is healthy in ensuring quality. Borman Village Kids is about providing the best care and education for children while also supporting his family to do this. Borman Village Kids is a purpose-built care and education facility designed with classrooms that meet the developmental needs of the children. Classroom spaces exceed the Ministry of Education's requirement of space per child and within our inside and outside environment we use natural resources where possible. All our furniture was made by Starex in Tauranga from top end materials designed to last a long time to keep the centre looking fresh and clean for many years to come. It is important that the classrooms meet the developmental needs of children while appealing to one of our main stakeholders which is the parents. There are good budgets for resources and equipment, we try to maintain the look and feel of the centre, trying to keep it looking like the day it opened. December 2020 { 16 }
