Sustainability brings life to the heart of a centre, New Shoots Children's Centre Keri Keri HOW TO DO A SWOT ANALYSIS Step 1. With the centre's team or leadership team develop a list of all the internal strengths of the centre. Step 2. Repeat the process to develop a list of all the internal weaknesses of the centre. Step 3. Repeat the process to list opportunities external to the centre. Step 4. Repeat the process to list threats external to the centre. Step 5: Use a prioritisation process to reduce these four lists down to five priorities within each list – e.g. each person ticks their five preferred options. The items with the most ticks then become the top five priorities. Ask the group to discuss these top five priorities within each list to confirm if they feel right. Then ask each person to rate them 1 to 5, with 5 being their strongest choice. Add up the scores and rank the highest scored to lowest scored in a SWOT Matrix. Step 6: Develop a strategic plan that focuses on the centre's opportunities and manages its threats using the centre's values, strengths, and weakness in a sustainable way, i.e. environmentally, socially, and economically.
