Swings + Roundabouts Summer 2023

Lucky Me Written by Lawrence Schimel Illustrated by Juan Camilo Mayorga Oratia Publishing; RRP: $25.99 Hardback This book acknowledges a range of themes, but at its core, it celebrates the different abilities and strengths that make us unique, including families of different sizes to disability in the form of being visually impaired. A disability means that Bruno’s brother does some things differently, but it does not hold him back. On the contrary – he can do amazing things that others can’t! In the end, Bruno shows we all have something to feel lucky about. The simple colour palette and illustrations add to the simplicity of the story. Although the illustrations appear simple they offer a variety of detail, diversity and world view many young children will relate to. For tamariki 3+.
