Our analysis also shows that teachers in these smaller centres tend to be more experienced on average. The Pay Parity policy will kill our small centres in New Zealand and lead to only larger centres being viable. This is a “man-made” problem. Or rather “MoE-made problem”. There’s a point where efficiency goes too far and educational policies are harmful – both to children and teachers. It is not feasible to have large centres all over New Zealand. Spare a thought for little centres everywhere and their amazing teachers who continue doing great work every day despite this poor support they receive.
