In an industry often measured by square metres and specifications, Turbine Residential measures success by something far more enduring: its people. The family-owned building company, based in the Manawatū-Whanganui region, has carved out a reputation for architecturally inspired homes, craftsmanship and awardwinning results. Yet behind every accolade is a tight-knit team united by shared values and a clear purpose. Director Shaun Mainwaring, a licensed building practitioner and Registered Master Builder with more than 20 years’ experience, believes the company’s strength lies firmly in its culture. “We build homes of enduring quality that stand as a testament to craftsmanship and care,” he says. “But it’s our team who make that possible. Shaun has supported apprentices through employment opportunities, and served as a judge for the Apprentice of the Year competition in 2021 and 2022. He also dedicated nine years to the Manawatū Registered Master Builders branch committee, including five as vice president and president. On-site, construction is led by advanced trade carpenter and supervisor Liam Boyle overseeing teams of qualified builders and apprentices. Regular site visits across Palmerston North, Feilding and Ashhurst ensure consistency and quality control. Behind the scenes, operations manager Melissa McCarten streamlines logistics and budgeting alongside Shaun, ensuring projects run to plan. Shaun’s wife Fiona provides in-house interior design guidance, assisting clients with colour selections and finishes, while also managing accounts and financial oversight. For bespoke builds, she coordinates with leading local designers to bring distinctive visions to life. It is this unified approach that has seen the company repeatedly recognised at the Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards. Recent honours include the 2024 Regional Lifestyle Award for Interior Design, Gold in the New Home $750,000$1 million category, and Silver in the $1 million–$1.5 million category, alongside multiple gold and silver awards in previous years.
