Gardner Homes has established a permanent office in the Hutt Valley, with a dedicated local franchise launched by Bruce and Taryn Perry, who plan to open a new show home at the Maymorn Farm Estate development in Upper Hutt in the coming months. The couple relocated from Queenstown to the Hutt Valley in June last year, bringing with them decades of construction experience and a clear view of the region’s long-term potential. By September, they had secured and fitted out a combined office and showroom at 249 High Street, Hutt Central, laying the groundwork for the franchise. Bruce says the decision to take on the G..J. Gardner Homes Hutt Valley franchise came after more than 20 years running their own construction company in Queenstown, where they delivered a wide range of residential and commercial projects. “When the opportunity came up in the Hutt Valley, it made sense,” he says. “It’s a strong brand with great systems that give you confidence when you’re starting something new.” The Hutt Valley has not previously had a locally based G..J. Gardner Homes franchise, with work in the area historically serviced from Kāpiti. Bruce says having a dedicated team on the ground is well timed, as Upper Hutt and the wider valley begin to show signs of renewed momentum. “There was a lot of brownfield development activity post-Covid, and then a period where the market paused while everyone worked out what the new environment looked like,” he says. “Now we’re seeing more energy, more consents coming through, and a gradual return of confidence.” That shift is particularly evident in Upper Hutt, where greenfield developments such as Maymorn Farm are gaining traction. The Gillies Group-led development is already seeing a number of houses under construction, with more nearing completion. “Our show home at Maymorn Farm will open in the next few months,” Bruce says. “It’s a slightly modified standard plan, designed to show the level of quality people can realistically expect to build on their own section anywhere in the Hutt Valley.” Bruce brings more than 45 years of handson building experience to the franchise, including complex, rocky hill-sites in Queenstown. He says that background allows him to engage with clients on technical detail, buildability, and long-term cost considerations, rather than simply selling a plan. Taryn brings a complementary skillset, with experience spanning nursing, policing, and more than 25 years in the building industry, including administration and accounts roles. She says the focus is on building long-term relationships and creating a supportive, transparent experience for clients. The franchise also has a strong community focus, already supporting local sports teams and groups across the Hutt Valley. “We’re being supported by the community, so it’s important that we give back and stay involved,” Taryn says.
