T T from page 42 Downer - Manawatu REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT “The key part that we are proud of is there was good communications with the residents, there were no complaints, no issues, we were able to get in and get out reasonably quickly without any delays,” says Daniel.. “We are thankful to the landowners for allowing us to take that approach.” Local iwi and Horizons also played a critical role, ensuring fish passage was built into the design and that the project was undertaken in a way that minimised environmental effects. Daniel and the team were “over the moon” about the CCNZ award. “It’s quite humbling and obviously great to get that recognition for the team for all the hard work that they put on to it, as well as Brownell Earthmoving, who worked with us. It’s great for them as well.” Before being engaged by the Tararua Alliance, Daniel worked directly for Downer for 11 years, and is equally proud of Henry Pearce, a sealing foreman, winning the CCNZ Young Leader award from a competitive field of entries from across the region. Now aged 24, Henry joined Tararua Alliance straight from school at 16 and developed a passion for road sealing. Daniel nominated Henry for the award, describing him as a natural leader with an excellent work ethic, who carries the respect of this team.
