Mills Albert CIVIL CONTRACTING Kāpiti-based civil construction company Mills Albert Ltd has revealed its new company vision is not just branding, but a way of life. ‘Building Tomorrow Together - He Tira Whakaahu’ will be rolled out throughout the company which, having been established as a startup in 2002, has evolved into a major regional civil construction business enterprise spanning drainage, roading, forestry and climate-resilience projects. With 130 staff now on the books, the company continues to set new standards in sustainable, value-driven construction. And after extensive korero with staff, iwi, clients and community partners, the leadership team and directors (Dave Mills – Whanganui; Lisa Mills-Albert – Nga Paerangi; and Paul Albert – Nga Paerangi) realised their next evolution needed to be about purpose. “’Building Tomorrow Together’ speaks to collaboration, sustainability and long-term impact,” Dave says. “It’s about uniting everyone - our people, clients, iwi and communities to shape infrastructure that truly serves future generations.” Mills Albert has implemented four core values that define what ‘the company vision looks like on a day-to-day basis: versatility (kawawhiua - adapting and acting, getting the job done), pride (mana - standing tall in how we lead, delivering and representing our name), pioneering (auahatanga - looking ahead, innovating and challenging the norm) and whanau (kotahitanga - caring for our team, clients and communities, and succeeding together). “These aren’t just slogans,” Lisa Mills-Albert says. “They drive leadership workshops, “vision moments” in daily pre-starts, and employee recognition programmes which celebrate innovation and teamwork.” For Mills Albert employees, ‘Building Tomorrow Together’ means belonging to a whanau that invests in their growth, and a strong culture of ‘measure, value and improve’. The Mills Albert Pathways (MAP) programme is training the next generation of machine operators and engineers, with 22 job seekers transformed into qualified crew members within six months. When Mills Albert partners with iwi and local communities to deliver infrastructure that respects both people and places, their shared vision must reflect genuine partnership and guardianship of the land. For suppliers and clients, the vision represents long-term reliability coupled with forward-thinking innovation such as hybrid machinery, recycled materials and transparent procurement. For Mills Albert, environmental stewardship is a steadfast strategic pillar, its “reduce, reuse, recycle, recover” philosophy driving initiatives from sediment-control innovation to solar-powered offices and electric vehicles. Its Integrated Management System ensures every tender and project decision supports quality, environmental and safety outcomes. A cornerstone of the business’s sustainability strategy is the Mills Albert Rock Farm in Opunake, an operation that consistently provides a supply of high-quality rock and rip-rap material essential for New Zealand’s environmental and climate resilience projects. And to epitomise the ultimate dual-purpose, sustainable business model, Mills Albert is developing a high-performing dairy operation on the Rock Farm site with the purchase of a dairy herd for the 2026-27 season. As rock is progressively extracted, the company is simultaneously improving the land’s farming productivity, producing premium-quality milk while supporting local employment, soil rehabilitation and long-term sustainability outcomes. Two decades after starting with a single digger and an uncompromising work ethic, the ‘Building Tomorrow Together’ vision symbolises a future built with integrity, inclusion and imagination. “We’re not just constructing roads, footpaths or pipelines,” Dave says. “We’re building pathways - for our people, our iwi and our communities - to a better tomorrow.” 30Years of Traffic Management Solutions We value Respect, Honesty, Integrity, Timeliness, and delivery of exceptional service to our customers and stakeholders At 1 Traffic Design our approach focuses on safety, compliance and efficiency ensuring every plan and process meets the highest standards of temporary traffic management.
