The new location provides a premium showcase for the company’s professional approach, and sets the stage for its next chapter of growth. Assistant manager Rebecca de Malmanche says the business had outgrown its former offices, with 60 staff and an ever-increasing range of services putting pressure on the space. “We’d had our eye on this building across the road for a couple of years, and when the opportunity came up we took it,” she says. “It’s had a complete makeover, from painting and wallpapering to showcase what we do, and it really represents who we are as a company. We’re really proud of our professionalism, so having a space that reflects that is important for us.” With its prominent Tremaine Avenue frontage, the new headquarters reinforces the company’s commitment to presenting a professional image. Rebecca says that extends beyond the building to every aspect of how the team shows up on-site. “We want to represent ourselves properly,” she says. “That means our vans are always clean, our uniforms are tidy, and the last thing you’ll see is a painter or their vehicle turning up covered in paint.” The expansion comes at a time when team dh is diversifying its services. Its Gib stopping division, now with four specialists, is delivering greater control over time frames and quality for finishing work. More recently, the company has invested in line marking, offering a service that Rebecca says is often hard to find for smaller projects. “Businesses redoing their car parks were asking us if we could do their lines as well as their painting,” she says. “Now we can offer a package deal. We purchased a machine through Resene, their representative trained one of our guys, and now he’s training others in our team. It’s another way we’re thinking outside the box, providing what our customers want, and making their lives a bit easier.” Community support remains central to team dh’s philosophy. The company has a strong relationship with Manawatū Rugby, and in recent years has donated labour for projects including the new Children’s ED at Palmerston North Hospital. A job for the local hospice is coming up, and Rebecca says giving back is part of the company culture. “At the end of the day, our new space is just four walls and a roof,” she says. “It’s our team and our community that make us who we are, and we wouldn’t be where we are without them. The building represents the future of the company and our commitment to setting the standard.” Rebecca is working closely with her father, company founder David Hurn, to carry forward team dh’s legacy.
