62 | POOL INDUSTRY Mayfair Pools NZ T T Kelly Deeks Leaders in exciting pool design The 15m pool features a five-sided infinity edge and a cantilevered design that mirrors the home’s balcony, creating a floating, treetop effect. As New Zealand’s pool industry increasingly focuses on bold, architecturally driven design, Mayfair Pools is positioned right at the forefront with its proprietary system that allows pools of any size, any shape, anywhere. The company is turning ambitious visions into reality, from rooftop terraces to cantilevered lap pools perched on steep hillsides. Director Clint Atkins says the flexibility of the method ensures that as design possibilities evolve, Mayfair remains capable of delivering them. “The future of pools is in design development,” Clint says. “Architects and homeowners want unique, integrated pools that complement their properties. Our system allows us to build exactly what they imagine — on any site, any size, and any shape. That’s what has made us leaders in the industry for more than 50 years.” Mayfair Pools is New Zealand’s longest-standing chain and largest pool building company with its story beginning in Hastings in the 1960s, when brothers Keith and Colin Atkins ran a fibreglass caravan business. By the early 1970s, Keith had recognised the potential for swimming pools and developed an innovative onsite-sprayed fibreglass system that could be adapted to any property. This method allowed the company to craft pools in challenging locations, a capability that remains a hallmark of Mayfair today. “Dad was always about innovation,” Clint says. “He wanted to build a better pool. The system he created could be applied anywhere and has been refined over 50 years to improve durability, insulation, and energy efficiency, while keeping the flexibility that sets us apart.” The company’s reputation for technical excellence is reflected in its portfolio of complex, high-end projects. This year, Mayfair Pools Northland – Ultra Custom Pools won the 2025 Platinum Pool of the Year award for a cantilevered lap pool extending from a Northland hillside property. The 15m pool features a five-sided infinity edge and a cantilevered design that mirrors the home’s balcony, creating a floating, treetop effect. Return jets were built into the floor to suit the site, and the entire project demanded precise coordination between architect, engineers, and the pool builder. “This project was extremely challenging,” Clint says. “Limited access, steep terrain, and a desire for a visually striking design meant we had to push engineering boundaries. It’s exactly what our system was designed for — to make almost any concept possible.” Mayfair Pools has built more than 15,000 pools across New Zealand, Australia, and the South Pacific, including more than 40 commercial installations in Auckland’s CBD. Its proprietary method allows each pool to be insulated for energy efficiency, maintain long-term structural integrity, and be tailored to any property, client lifestyle, or architectural style. Clint says the company serves a broad market right across New Zealand, from midrange family pools to high-end, architecturally integrated projects. He credits their ability to collaborate with architects and designers as one of the reasons they continue to lead the industry. “Architects come to us with ideas others can’t build,” he says. “If someone has a bold concept — a rooftop pool, a pool hugging a hillside, or a cantilevered infinity design — we can make it happen. That’s our advantage.” Industry recognition reflects that expertise. In addition to its 2025 Supreme Award for Best Fibreglass Pool Builder in New Zealand, Mayfair Pools has won multiple national awards for design and innovation and was a finalist for the Australasian title. Clint says the accolades confirm the company’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and customer satisfaction. “We’re proud to be recognised by our peers,” he says. “It validates our approach and the technical skill of our team. More importantly, it reflects the trust our customers have placed in us over decades, which we value above all else.” Looking forward, Clint says design innovation will continue to drive the future of the industry, with AI-assisted tools bringing an expansion of ideas and evolving architectural trends growing the possibilities for bespoke builds. “We can make almost any pool possible, which is why homeowners and designers continue to trust us. We’ve been doing it for more than 50 years, and we’re just getting started.” Austral BWT is excited to introduce the next generation of cordless pool cleaning and proud of our association with Mayfair Pools NZ. www.austral.co.nz F1 Sonic Pro FREEDOM.
