Dynamic Construction is bucking the trend of the recent downturn in the building industry. Owned by Cole Newport it has been juggling multiple large-scale projects across the region, from complex renovations to new builds. The firm specialises in high-value projects often spanning 12 months or longer. It operates with a team of six, allowing Cole to be on the tools as required as well as oversee multiple simultaneous projects. “We’re busy because we have experience on complex projects and know the local area well,” says Cole who established the Napier-based company in 2020 and has a decade of industry experience. Dynamic Construction’s current workload includes a villa restoration in Napier South, a nine-month project involving double glazing, insulation, re-lining, re-cladding and modernisation work. It is also working on a major renovation project on Napier Hill, which will take approximately two years to complete. The house, which was vacant for two decades, requires extensive work including a large retaining wall, multiple-storey decks and balconies, recladding and a complete floor plan redesign. Dynamic Construction is also tackling repair work in Havelock, where Cyclone Gabrielle caused a landslip that destroyed the top storey of a three-storey home terraced into a hillside. The company has also recently completed a new build on a back section in Green Meadows, Napier, while simultaneously renovating the front house on the same property. The 160-square-metre new build features three bedrooms and two bathrooms and is clad board and batten. It is about to start work on a commercial renovation project in Hastings, which will involve earthquake strengthening, recladding, re-pitching the roof and a new façade. Cole attributes much of the company’s success to strong local partnerships and a reputation for quality workmanship. “We try to use local suppliers whenever possible. We’ve developed valued relationships with firms like Fusion Joinery and Nichol Glass & Aluminium that help us deliver the highest quality results,” says Cole. The company also provides contract work to smaller local building companies such as BBH Construction, helping to spread the benefits of its steady workflow throughout the local construction ecosystem. Much of Dynamic Construction’s work comes through referrals and word of mouth, something he is proud of and perhaps the strongest testament to its performance in a competitive market.
