104 | BUILDING GJ Gardner Homes - Taranaki GJ Gardner Taranaki sets the gold standard When Rod Roebuck, co-franchise owner of GJ Gardner Taranaki is asked, just what makes the company tick, his response is immediate. “Honestly, it’s the people. It goes right across the whole network. We have an outstanding group of people, super strong and incredibly trustworthy.” The pride in acknowledging the calibre of his professional team mates, is clear when he speaks. “Across the whole network of GJ Gardner businesses, we’re all locals and we know our regions and our people. I think this is especially apparent in the smaller regions such as Taranaki, where our involvement and support of the community is second-to-none.” Also leading GJ Gardner Taranaki is co- owner Ben Hawke. Rod’s been involved with the brand some 19 years in total, the last 10 at the helm along with Ben. Asked how business has been of late, Rod acknowledges its been a little quieter than usual, but he’s full of optimism and enthusiasm for the opportunities 2026 will bring. “We are definitely increasing our market share, even though it’s been a more restricted market. T T Sue Russell It is a tough market out there but this is where we dig deep and work hard, delivering the quality of service and engagement with our clients, that our reputation has been built on.” And a significant motivator for both Ben and himself, Rod says, is knowing they have 450 local trades people who rely on the projects GJ Gardner deliver. “We take that responsibility very seriously. It’s certainly not just about the team here at GJ Gardner Taranaki, it goes way wider than that.” This year, a beautiful home near Pukekura Park, which is their latest showhome, received accolades at the Registered Master Builders House of the Year regional event, taking out category winner and gold awards. Affectionately called ‘Bespoke on Brooklands’, the 248sqm 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home was specifically designed for the site. Along with a beautiful home, the site is also home to three very special protected trees, which had to be preserved. “The site was about two metres below the road level, so the site work included placing 120 piles across the building platform on which the house would rest. It was an enormous undertaking.” Rod says the special site informed the choice of materials and colour palette for the home. “It needed to be earthy with the protected trees and the park location. We wanted a home that was going to look as though it perfectly suited it surrounds and that’s what we’ve achieved.” The brief Rod and Ben gave to their designer was to have the master bedroom BARRY DANIELS & SONS LTD PAINTERS & DECORATORS HONOURED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH GJ Gardner Homes Taranaki Gavin 0274 834 443 | Jack 0274 747 066 Email daniels.painters@xtra.co.nz WHERE QUALITY COMES FIRST. Rod says, the team poured over the plans for about two months and in the process re-jigged a few design elements. “We weren’t going to sign off on the design until we were 100% happy and I think all that careful thought and consideration as to how the spaces flow has vindicated the time it took to finalise things.”
