Wellington-based de Bes Electrical Ltd has scored a major milestone, with their apprentice Ronan Griffiths winning the Wellington regional finals of the 2025 Master Apprentice Electrical Awards. Taking out the top spot in the regionals was a proud moment for both Ronan and the business says de Bes Electrical owner, Tyson de Bes. “It’s a huge achievement for Ronan, and for us as a small team. It reflects the effort we’ve both put into his training and the standard we set for all our work,” Tyson says. Twenty-two-year-old registered apprentice, Ronan has been with de Bes Electrical for three and a half years. He entered the competition last year as a second-year apprentice, placing fourth, before returning to win the regionals this year. The competition is high during the two days of rigorous testing of practical and technical skills, from complex switchboard fit offs to electrical fault-finding challenges. Only the top five apprentices in the country, ranked on points, make the cut to proceed to the national Master Apprentice finals to be held later this year in Queenstown. Ronan is awaiting the results of other regional heats to see if he qualifies for a shot at the nationals. For de Bes Electrical, Ronan’s award win is more than a just a trophy; it’s proof that the company’s investment in people, service, and standards pays off.
