BUILDING The franchisees of David Reid Homes Taupo have enjoyed a great five years and are looking forward to seeing a new show home starting to take shape soon. Husband and wife team Scott and Melissa Hare bought the franchise in 2017 and haven’t looked back since. “We had a really good start in our first year, things went really well and since then we’ve taken on more and more builds. Every year is better than the last one,” Melissa says. The Taupo franchise has been building premium architectural homes in Taupo since 2004 and extends across much of the Central Plateau, including the Waitomo and Otorohanga, South Waikato and Taupo Districts. This broad area demands a significant degree of localised design and build expertise to account for the varied vast geographic demands. Melissa describes Scott as a “does it all kind of guy”. A qualified builder with more than 18 years experience and a pro-active project manager, Scott is well known by clients and subcontractors for his organisational skills, efficiency and eye for detail. He has considerable experience managing and coordinating projects to a high standard, including residential, commercial and rural. The franchise took on a project manager, Duncan McCartney, last year who has been an asset to its small team. Also a builder earlier in his career, he shares Scott’s eye for detail and organisational skills. Melissa works in administration while sales and design consultant Raewyn Mackie works with clients throughout the design process with interior and exterior colour design and material specifications. “She really gets to know the clients and what their personality brings out and what their preferences are. Scott, Raewyn, our architect and the clients all work together to design the plan ensuring they get the best design for their needs, wants and budget.” The bespoke nature and appearance of David Reid Homes designs is one of the things that attracted them to the company and is also something that has considerable appeal to their clients, Melissa says. We build everything right from small homes to the extravagant ones, depending on our clients requirements. In and around Taupo, popular cladding options have been cedar and classic-look weatherboard, with other options such as rustic brick and coloured steel also in the mix, sometimes in combination with each other to create specific design elements for maximum visual external appeal. “It definitely helps break up the design of the home and makes it more interesting.” The franchise is about to start construction of a new show home in Kinloch. Reflecting the popularity of pavilion style homes, the 295 square metre home is on a 10,000 square metre site in a new subdivision, Lochridge Estate, which is within very close proximity to Kinloch Village and a short drive to Taupo township. With four bedrooms and two living spaces within three pavilions, it perfectly showcases a design that would make for great family living. “We have designed the home ourselves in collaboration with our architect.” The country theme and rustic design will be reflected in the exterior cladding which will include Italian San Selmo reclaimed kiln-fired clay bricks and timber cladding and its interior featuring raking, exposed truss ceilings. This will be complemented by a stylish and functional kitchen with a stone bench top and a spacious scullery with skylights. This show home will replace the existing one in Nga Roto Estate.
