| 103 BUILDING Shane Stone Builders The Clever Living Showhome. Having successfully tendered for the major rebuild, a dedicated team was apportioned the daily task of first clearing the burnt areas within the large hotel precinct, then preparing it for the major rebuildng work. Highly regarded local architecture studio Black Pine Architecture were engaged right from the outset to prepare building designs that would bring the hotel a fresh modern look and feel, something The Avenue’s owners, Chardonay Properties, wanted to achieve out of the destructive fire. “We were involved right from the beginning, initially securing the site before moving into the demolition work. From there, we worked alongside Black Pine Architecture, the owners and the wider project team through the planning and design stages of the rebuild.” And Jodi points out that all this was happening on a site that was still open for business, in terms of the motel units and various accommodation options that were not impacted by the fire. Key to the build’s success Jodi stresses were the capabilities of key staff involved, including QS Warren Gray and Pete Connolly, Construction Manager and Adam Vettise, Site Manager. Our site Manager Adam Vettise was not only dealing with the day to day and managing our teams, he was also overseeing the multitude of subcontractors, making sure everything was on track. Massive health and safety systems surrounded the build, given the hotel was still functioning.” Out of the cinders has come a new dining experience, Glasshouse, a refined dining room celebrating an airy, light-filled room, linking to outdoor dining and drinks, serviced from the modern, well-appointed commercial kitchen. The dining space shifted from a large traditional restaurant to a cafe-style layout, featuring curved timber for acoustic comfort and a private dining room and officially opened on July 7. Jodi says a fitting way to mark the project’s completion was a drinks and nibbles celebration for everyone involved in the project, hosted by clients Chardonnay Properties and restaurant operators Carl Falconer and Freya McKinnon. “It was their way of saying thank you for the wonderful work our teams and subcontractors working on the site achieved. It’s so good to see The Avenue Hotel now fully operational and it was our absolute pleasure to have led this challenging rebuild.”
