A landmark healthcare development is taking shape in Palmerston North, with Central Healthcare Ltd’s new Milson Line project set to significantly expand specialist medical services and improve access to healthcare for patients across the Manawatu. The $40 million development will deliver a purpose-built healthcare facility designed to complement the existing services provided by Crest Hospital, while bringing a wide range of medical specialists together in one convenient location. Scheduled to be fully operational by mid2028, the project represents the culmination of years of planning and collaboration between healthcare professionals who shared a common vision for the region. Central Healthcare Ltd was established five years ago by Central Healthcare Ltd Chair Daniel Marshall and a group of clinicians, after recognising Palmerston North’s growing need for additional healthcare infrastructure. Today, the company comprises 46 clinicians, all committed to expanding access to quality healthcare throughout the Manawatu. Following an extensive search, the group purchased the 15,000sqm greenfield site on Milson Line, laying the foundations for what will become a comprehensive health precinct. “Our vision is to create a health precinct that is a one-stop shop for patients,” Chairman Daniel Marshall says. “Patients will be able to see their specialist, walk out the door for their imaging, and potentially have surgery in the same location. It’s all about making healthcare easier and more accessible for patients.” The facility has been carefully designed to enhance existing services, creating a seamless patient experience while supporting the continued growth of private healthcare in the region. Crest Hospital will be a major tenant, expanding into an additional 2,500sqm within the new development. The expansion will include three new operating theatres and procedure rooms, a day-stay surgery unit and an extensive consulting suite, providing increased capacity to meet growing demand. Pacific Radiology will also occupy a purpose-built 1,200sqm facility featuring a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging services, including MRI, PET-CT, CT, ultrasound and X-ray. Site works are already well underway, with local civil engineering contractor Stringfellows completing the earthworks and site levelling. The project is being managed by Proactive Management’s Nick Ward, with architectural design by Hawke’s Bay firm Architecture HDT and construction to be undertaken by Maycroft Construction. Daniel says a tremendous amount of planning has gone into bringing the project to life. “There has been a huge amount of background work to get to this point,” he says. “We’ve built a strong team around us, secured quality tenants and are confident this development will become a significant asset for the Manawatu.” Beyond improving healthcare outcomes, the project is also delivering substantial economic benefits through employment and opportunities for local contractors and businesses involved in its construction. “We’re very excited about what this project will mean for patients in the Manawatu,” Daniel says. “We’ve built a strong team around us, secured quality tenants and are confident this development will become a significant asset for the Manawatu.” PROUD CONSTRUCTION PARTNER OF THE MILSON LINE HEALTHCARE FACILITY.
