Precision craftsmanship and thoughtful design come together at Aluminium Solutions Taranaki, where bespoke aluminium joinery is helping transform architectural ideas into award-winning homes. Based in Stratford, the family-owned business has been manufacturing aluminium joinery and glazing solutions for nearly two decades after owner Paul established the Nebulite franchise from the ground up. Today it specialises in architectural homes, renovations and retrofits throughout Taranaki. Recognition followed at the 2026 Window & Glass Association of New Zealand Design Awards, where The House on Mill won the Design Residential – Lower North Island category. A second project, Beaconsfield Ridge, was shortlisted in the same category, highlighting the company’s ability to deliver distinctive architectural joinery across very different homes. Aluminium Solutions Taranaki Daniel Tofts says the result exceeded the team’s expectations. “I was a bit shocked, to be honest, when we were up against all the other houses. Most of the others were more like luxury homes, and ours was a modest townhouse.” Built on a compact inner-city site in New Plymouth, The House on Mill demonstrates how carefully designed joinery can maximise natural light, privacy and a sense of space within a modest footprint. Aluminium Solutions Taranaki worked alongside the builder and architect to deliver several bespoke features, including a custom aluminium window shroud and vibrant coloured glazing that became defining elements of the home. “The architect wanted coloured glass in the bathroom and ensuite, so we had to work out a way of achieving that while keeping the double-glazed units intact.” The team collaborated with a local signwriter to apply a specialist 3M film to the insulated glazing units, creating striking yellow and orange feature windows while preserving their thermal performance. The project reflects the practical problem-solving that underpins the company’s work on custom residential builds. As part of the Nebulite network and Altus Window Systems, Aluminium Solutions Taranaki has access to technical expertise from across the wider group, along with support from suppliers including Viridian Glass and Metroglass. That becomes particularly valuable when projects involve complex detailing or unusually large glazing requirements. “If it’s a more complex project, we can reach out to other fabricators in the Nebulite network. There’s always someone to bounce ideas off.” The products themselves have changed markedly during Dan’s decade with the business. Thermally broken joinery has evolved from an occasional specification to the standard for new homes meeting H1 energy efficiency requirements, while Low-E argon-filled glazing and smart locking systems have become increasingly common. “Ten years ago you might have had one thermally broken job a year. Now, to comply with H1, that’s what people need, along with Low-E, argon-filled glass. It’s changed a lot.” Despite difficult conditions across parts of the construction sector, Aluminium Solutions Taranaki has maintained a consistently strong workload, supported largely by long-standing relationships within the region’s rural community.
