EasyBuild Hawke’s Bay BUILDING Building a home in the Hawke’s Bay became easier and more affordable with the arrival of EasyBuild Homes in the region four years ago. Building semi-modular homes, the company has its factory in the Upper Hutt, and covers a territory from Dannevirke to Mahia. It offers a wide range of Multiproof designs – designs that meet the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment statement, which sets out plans and specifications for compliance with the Building Code – ranging from a 38.8sqm one-bedroom unit to a 136.6sqm four-bedroom home. There are also two-storey plans that include a hallway. EasyBuild Hawke’s Bay director, James Rosenberg says the designs provide a quick and convenient way to get a build underway. “Being Multiproof, the plans tend to go through the council’s building consent process quicker.” Once the foundations are down, there is a 12- to 14-week time frame for completion. A 20-foot container arrives at the building site with all the frames pre-cut and windows installed, which allows the team to get it weathertight within 10 to 14 days. “With our modular systems in place, we can save people time and money on their build,” James says. The build uses mostly standard building materials, with BGC fibre cement board being a common cladding. Customers come from a number of different sectors, and homes are built for a wide range of purposes, James says, from small, one-bedroom secondary dwellings to the larger, four-bedroom family homes. He says there have been a number of firsthome buyers building with the company this year. “With being able to give an accurate price to build, this gives the clients and the banks confidence there isn’t going to be any budget blowouts.” In its four years in the region, EasyBuild Hawke’s Bay has had numerous satisfied clients, and has also completed a community housing project in Flaxmere James says there are some exciting developments in the pipeline, and that things are looking up in the industry. Mike teamed up with Luke and his late father, Dennis Ryan, to bring the company to life. The mission was to give Kiwis the opportunity to build their own quality, energy-efficient new homes. Luke and Dennis had come up with their original modular homes concept in the late 1970s, after seeing the benefits of them overseas. They took the time to perfect the concept and built hundreds of new homes. A change in the market to bigger, more expensive homes saw them pause production, and focus on other building projects. But by 2015, it became clear that quality affordable housing was desperately needed. That was when EasyBuild Homes came to life, with designs and materials updated to suit modern living.
