| 21 Methanex Methanex recently completed one of New Zealand’s most significant carbon-saving projects to date when it completely retrofitted its distillation towers. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Family-owned business Wells Instrumentation and Electrical Limited was first established in 1984. 40 years later they keep their leading edge by rapidly adapting to a changing market, offering electrical, instrumentation and automation services. With proven leadership in field service technology and innovation they offer cutting edge revenue metering and technical solutions, putting their huge depth of experience to good use in contracts that range from modest to multi-million dollar budgets. They can install a smart metre as easily as build a geothermal power station and have an increasing focus on sustainable solutions and renewable capabilities for grid-scale solar and the accompanying Battery Electrical Storage Systems (BESS). Wells quickly provide solutions, in the growing EV Charging infrastructure space with software designed to both measure and manage the power being used to charge vehicles: whether in someone’s garage or primarily at an industrial or commercial level, explains CEO Justin Peterson. “For example every house or Business has a certain size electrical cable coming in which can be exceeded when you charge an EV so there’s a risk you’ll blow a fuse. We have software that monitors and manages the power usage so it can ramp it up when there’s not a lot of power usage in the house, or Business or wherever, and ramp it down when there is.” Over the last 10 years the depth of their automation team has steadily increased around the country as they design and deliver purpose-built custom control systems allowing clients to safely and accurately automate their equipment: telling the machine filling a milk bottle when to stop, then telling the next one it’s time to put the cap on, for example. “For existing and new Indistrial & Comercial clients looking at automation, machine safety assessment is a big part of what we do as well. Assessing whether equipment is safe to use from an automation perspective and making recommendations about what to do to make things safer and more efficient,” Justin explains. Wells have supported Methanex for their shut down work for many years. “It’s a relationship we value. Their team have similar principles to us when it comes to safety, quality and building strong relationships, we’re a good fit,” says Justin. There’s little room for error in high-hazard environment’s and our clients know they can rely on the electrical, instrumentation and calibration skills provided by Wells to ensure the ongoing health and safety of all concerned. Whether it’s electrical, instrumentation, field services or automation solutions Wells have the depth of expertise needed to provide all of their clients, big or small, the sort of high-quality, solutions that underpin their solid reputation from Kaitaia to Bluff.
