| 7 Techlam NZ Techlam’s range of glulam products has evolved over 30 years to meet the needs of architects and structural engineers. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT offer all the technical support clients need, as together they develop a solution for their specific project, combining form and function to achieve the client’s vision, while respecting their budget. “We make it easy for our clients by coming up with innovative solutions for their challenges. The earlier we’re involved the better, so we can identify problems before they happen,” says Brett. A current project for Techlam involves the Palmerston North Airport, which as a busy working airport, needed to keep any downtime to an absolute minimum while the terminal was redeveloped. Once Techlam outlined the efficiencies of engineered timber and pre-fabrication to the architects, it became an obvious choice and they secured its significant glulam supply contract. They came on early, working closely with the design team to come up with a clear pathway to the completed project, Brett explains. “We started around the table with the architects and a sketch, because at that stage we weren’t allowed to know what it was. We know that if we’re involved that early we can steer it towards a really efficient design with both functional strength and visual appeal, which is exactly what happened.” Palmerston North Airport is one of several large projects Techlam is presently undertaking, which will showcase what they have to offer. Techlam’s expertise can be seen throughout New Zealand, Australasia and the rest of the world, especially in remote places where getting the materials there is half the challenge. Its ability to weather harsh environments means it is popular in the Pacific Islands, where it is used for individual fales and resorts alike. Whatever the project, Techlam is there to help with the timber work: to talk early, plan well, and deliver projects that are beautiful, efficient and built to last.
