T T Karen Phelps “We also tailor house and land packages for people by understanding both their budget and what they want from a home.” A focus on transparency and tailored design is helping Jennian Homes Hawke’s Bay stand out in a challenging construction market, according to company director Jason Svensson. The family-owned franchise, operated by Jason and wife Vikki specialises in custom design and build homes, house and land packages and spec builds across the region, with a strong emphasis on ensuring clients understand the full cost of a project from the outset. “People can get hit with variations later, especially in tougher economic climates where builders are competing hard for work and trying to appear cheaper than they really are,” says Jason. “We ensure we have a full comprehensive understanding of what people want and include everything in our costings. That way there are no surprises and projects are completed on time and within budget.” Jason says honesty and transparency are central to the business model, particularly as many clients are making one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. “We want to be upfront with people so they can make good choices,” says Jason. “Also, our baseline specification level is higher compared with a lot of competitors and people notice that quickly when they walk through one of our homes. We won’t skimp on quality.” Jennian Homes Hawke’s Bay is backed by one of New Zealand’s most awarded building brands and offers a highly personalised local approach. Jason, a qualified builder with more than 20 years’ experience, oversees design and construction, whilst Vikki takes care of sales and works closely with clients on interiors, pricing, selections and contracts. Together, the pair guide clients through every stage of the process, from design concepts and budgeting through to consent and construction. Design and build projects are a major focus for the franchise, with Jason saying the company works collaboratively with clients to create homes suited specifically to lifestyle needs and budgets. “We also tailor house and land packages for people by understanding both their budget and what they want from a home,” says Jason. “We then help identify the right section to suit that design and budget. It takes the stress away from clients trying to find land first and then work out what they can build on it.” Jennian Homes Hawke’s Bay works closely with developers and real estate agents across the bay so it can bring the best on offer to clients. This means the franchise has its finger on the pulse of what will be coming up and Jason says there are several exciting opportunities for those wanting to build a new home in the region. The franchise’s new spec home for sale and currently under construction at 205A Guppy Road, Taradale, is also attracting attention. The four-bedroom house and land package includes open-plan living, a designer kitchen, covered alfresco area and a double garage, with completion expected by spring. The company is also preparing to open a new display home at 8 Herehere Drive in the Iona development at Havelock North in June. The 213sqm two-storey home features three bedrooms, two living spaces, two bathrooms and a double garage. Designed to maximise the surrounding landscape and views towards the ranges, the home incorporates heat-treated pine timbers, plaster and traditional weatherboard cladding and will have a feature staircase crafted from reclaimed hardwood timbers and main deck complete with a louvre roof creating the ultimate outdoor living zone. “Every detail of this home has been thoughtfully designed for modern living and will really showcase our attention to finer detail,” says Jason. This focus on quality has been recognised repeatedly at the Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards where the franchise has earned multiple accolades including, most recently, Regional Gold and Regional Category Winner in the 2024 East Coast and Hawke’s Bay GIB Show Home category. Jason says the goal is always to deliver homes that balance quality, practicality and affordability without compromising on service or craftsmanship. “At the end of the day, clients are trusting us with their future,” says Jason. “We genuinely care about delivering a home that reflects their vision and gives them confidence throughout the entire process.”
