26 | Golden glow for design specialists Edge Interiors T T Kim Newth Edge worked with Beyond Radiology at two previous locations in Grafton and Silverdale before completing the latest award-winning Beyond Radiology Hamilton project. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Winning not one, but two gold awards at the recent 2026 New Zealand Commercial Project Awards was an outstanding achievement for Auckland-based Edge Interiors. The commercial interior design and fit-out specialist won gold in the commercial fit-out category for a workplace transformation project (Dentsu), as well as a health project gold for Beyond Radiology Hamilton. Edge Interiors is proud to have taken home the double gold, with owner, Brendan Gray, who leads Edge as managing director, thrilled with the recognition. “Big thanks to our team, the clients and everyone else behind the scenes, who made these projects possible,” says Brendan. “Winning these awards is a big morale booster for our team and highlights all their hard work and effort. Edge was the main contractor on both projects. The architect for Beyond Radiology was MA Studio, while the client rep was Acept NZ. Sean Rau was the project manager, with cost control led by John Hayes. “On the Dentsu project, Edge Interiors team delivered design and project management, with cost control by Edge Interiors’ Ursula Warner.” Dentsu’s newly refurbished head office was completed in two stages, starting with a car park area that was completely transformed with new collaborative working spaces and a large town hall-style kitchen. The Dentsu team then moved down into this new area while the two floors above were refurbished. Throughout this project, disciplined staging and close coordination was required to minimise disruption, so that Dentsu could continue to operate smoothly. “Dentsu was amazing to work with, and all credit to their team for their resilience. With programming and scheduling carefully managed by our projects team, it all went really well,” says Brendan. Beyond Radiology Hamilton was delivered on the historically significant Kirikiriroa Pa site along the Waikato River, with sensitivity to the whenua shaping early design decisions on minimising ground disturbance. Construction was challenging, with excavation for the lift shaft and MRI foundations undertaken within confined internal spaces. Careful staging was required, along with air-quality monitoring and strict safety control. Midway through the delivery of this technically precise facility, a second tenancy fit-out was seamlessly carried out without disruption. “There were a lot of challenges on this project, particularly around what people don’t see, for example what’s underground, all the concrete work, and details like special lining for X-ray rooms and faraday cages for MRI,” says Brendan. “As well, New Zealand Police were still operating in the back of the building during most of this job, and there were residential apartments next door, so we had to be careful about access and controlling noise.” Edge worked with Beyond Radiology at two previous locations in Grafton and Silverdale before completing the latest award-winning Beyond Radiology Hamilton project. The team has just finished another similar project for Beyond Radiology in Botany, and has another underway in Mount Maunganui. The double gold for Edge Interiors follows silver success at last year’s NZ Commercial Project Awards for Nero Tapware’s flagship Auckland showroom.
