Driven by a desire to provide the industry with the very best products available, and having experienced the challenges particularly of chemical paint stripping, Matt went looking for safer and more efficient alternatives. “I did a lot of research in those early days and discovered a product called Paintshaver Pro, which delivered outstanding results for those on the tools,” he says “We secured the New Zealand agency for Paintshaver, and I established Millin Distributors in 2005, operating as an online shop. It was from this innovation that Millin has grown into the business it is today.” In 2016, Matt made the decision to step away from The House Painters and pursue a new direction. Through his experience in the trade, he recognised a gap in the market for high-quality products that weren’t readily available through the major hardware chains. More importantly, he saw an opportunity to pair premium products with the kind of practical, accessible support that customers and contractors genuinely value. That philosophy continues to underpin Millin today. “The goal is to give people a really wide range of really cool products. We’re a small team, and by concentrating on supplying products online, we’ve carved a niche, based on quality advice and tailored solutions.” Less than 1% of products available are, in fact, imported, something Matt says he’s very proud of, given his desire to support local businesses producing quality technologies. “We have also just decided to support New Zealand companies that import really good products. “It started with painting supplies and morphed to abrasives, engineering, and a wide range of specialised equipment.
