It concentrates on road freight, container logistics and providing an array of warehousing solutions. “We know we have the capacity, capability and the drive to grow on from our current scale. It’s a case of doing our due diligence and seeing where those opportunities exist.” Often, the beginnings of a business don’t always come from a positive space, and perhaps this can be said for Auckland transport logistics company, Veer Transport, as general manager, Sunil Nadella, explains. “We were started 10 years ago by Jarnail Singh Dhaliwa,” Says Sunil. “While driving for another company he was not treated well, and this spurred him on to start a business with a strong, supportive culture and a mindset very much tuned around solid growth through proven performance,” he says. That was 25 trucks ago, and today, with three container processing ports and warehousing capacity, and a staff of 68, the company services all the major shipping lines. “You know what’s interesting is that the key driver in all this development was never to make a lot of money, just to build a business we would all be proud to work in, and I’d say by the reputation we’ve grown that we have very much achieved that,” says Sunil. He says it’s about having a flexible attitude and delivering the types of services tailor-made to each customer that keeps them coming back again and again. Six people work in the warehouse, processing goods brought in by the team of 38 drivers, backed up by 12 people working in the yards keeping the containers and freight moving through the system, while a dedicated team of a dozen work in the office, ensuring everyone is supported to perform at their very best. “We don’t have a massive hierarchy,” says director, Steven Machado. “Another key difference is that we undertake all our own servicing in-house. This has been a huge positive for us, as often transport businesses find themselves waiting for a third party to fix a problem. We’re on to it straight away, getting the very best performance from our fleet and equipment. And that capability is delivered through a certified mechanic able to easily get to where the problem is, in a company van.” Sunil says founder Jarnail Singh Dhaliwal has a mindset very much tuned on being prepared to diversify and invest. “We’re certainly not shy to get our hands dirty when we see an opportunity. We’ve built a vertically integrated business that delivers the most efficient, cost-effective outcomes to our customers. “To this day, Janail likes nothing more than driving a truck.” With a culture very much focused on internal promotion and encouraging staff to broaden their careers within the company, Steven says it is well poised to take up further opportunities to grow. It concentrates on road freight, container logistics and providing an array of warehousing solutions. “We also have a hub in Christchurch, where we work with major shipping lines and pack logs into containers.” Those core logistic solutions extend across container transport and storage, container devanning and cargo warehousing, which sees incoming cargo efficiently unloaded, sorted and reloaded on to outbound vehicles. “This reduces overall storage time and transit costs and is a key strength in our service delivery.” Sunil says 2026 been a good year so far. “For us, it comes down to some pretty simple attitudes. A customer is a customer, regardless of whether they have a thousand or one container. Our model is ‘every container matters’. We’re certainly looking forwarding to future growth and know we have the systems in place to grow in scale as opportunities present.”
