JOINERY Ecodure Flooring The result of years of research and development, Duracore® Silent, from Ecodure Flooring’s flagship product range, has a strong track record and a top award to its name. Based in Albany, on Auckland’s North Shore, Ecodure Flooring is run by Nic and Josh Blackie, who strive to deliver their customers significant performance and cost benefits from their flooring systems. “I carry a background in commercialisation of science and technology, having attained a Masters degree from Auckland University,” says Josh. “When we wanted to bring a pioneering range of flooring solutions, suitable for multi-level higher-density situations that would deliver long-lasting wearability and ease of installation, I utiised the university’s accoustic lab to test and validate an enhanced acoustic floor offering . It was from this work that we created Duracore® Silent to add to the brand’s range.” Innovation is at the heart of what makes Ecodure Flooring the success it is today. Last year, the company won the Australasian Timber Flooring Association NZ Hybrid Floor of the Year award for Duracore® Silent, a high-performing, rigid vinyl flooring technology specifically designed to add to a room’s acoustic capability. “When you consider people are living and working in close proximity to each other, the amount of noise transferred through flooring to other spaces becomes a critical issue,” says Josh. “Duracore Silent® has contributed significantly to sound transference being minimised. It’s also very hard-wearing, cost-effective to install, making good economic sense for developers of large floor-area projects.” Josh says until this research there had been very little, if any, advance in flooring products dealing with accoustic issues, other than adding cork to buffer sound. So how does Duracord Silent® achieve impressive improvements to a floor’s accoustic capability? The secret is in the proprietary structure of the board. This includes patented core technology that maintains a thin 7.5mm profile, yet still delivers market-leading acoustic performance. Decoupling the vibration through the core and wear layer has helped Duracore acheive superior acoustic perfomance. This year, the company has achived further recognition by being named a finalist in the Innovation category of the Auckland North & West Business Awards. “We’ll have to wait until the gala dinner later this year to see how we get on,” says Josh. ”This is our first time entering the competition.” Josh says he and Nic are most proud of the fact that they have created a product for New Zealand conditions that looks good and can stand up to the Kiwi lifestyle. “It’s solved problems for builders, architects and developers in terms of cost and performance. When you look at multi-level units, building at scale, we’ve taken out a lot of material cost and a lot of labour. This significantly benefits the bottom line for projects.” And while acknowledging they are a small company, Josh says the refined range and quality of their flooring products is second-tonone. “We aspire to bring the best innovation in flooring to New Zealand direct to customers, without a middle man. Our clients value the detailed expertise we bring and our customer experience. They deal direct with the owners of the business.” Along with the Duracore® range, which Josh describes as the company’s ‘pin-up’ brand, Ecodure Flooring stocks a select range of vinyl, timber and engineered hard flooring products, along with wool and solution dyed nylon carpets. “We’re here to offer our customers good solid advice and in-depth education if they want it. We deeply understand what goes into every product we sell, and we’re proud of what we have developed. It’s about delivering real benefits to our customers.” “When you consider people are living and working in close proximity to each other, the amount of noise transferred through flooring to other spaces becomes a critical issue.” Showroom | 4b Titoki Pl, Albany | 09 4893602 www.ecodureflooring.co.nz        € ‚‚‚   €
