REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT It has been an exciting 12 months for Les Harrison Transport Ltd since launching what is believed to be a first in New Zealand — an impressive new truck that can lift heavier and reach further than ever before. Built by Foremost Engineering, the powerful new addition is purpose-designed and built for heavy lifting. It brings together a mighty combo — a tri-drive, 10-wheeler Hino truck with a front-mounted Palfinger NZ PK92002 crane. It comes equipped with eight extensions on the main boom and an optional fly-jib for extended reach. The crane has capacity to lift 15,000kg beside the truck, or up to 680kg out to 33 metres. “It is a real game changer,” says Les. “This is the largest crane in our fleet. As well as being big, it’s very versatile. We are using it for a range of challenging on-site lifting jobs. “By eliminating the need for tandem lifts, it makes everything much safer and more efficient. Hino and Palfinger are really reliable brands too; our customers can be confident that we’ll be lifting and shifting their heavy loads with this for many years to come.” It took an innovative team with vision to hone the concept for this special truck. Les Harrison and one of his team’s most experienced drivers, Andrew Smit, put their heads together with Hino and Palfinger to achieve what they wanted. On social media, the new truck is a Les Harrison Transport star. Photos and showreels demonstrate the truck in action, delivering roofing materials with easy precision. It can lift and carry everything from stacks of roofing iron to logs, power poles and large shipping containers. The ground-breaking new addition featured on the front cover of NZ Truck & Driver earlier this year, showcasing the lift and carry of a portable home from Waiuku to Morrinsville. “It’s not just this truck that puts us at the forefront of our industry though — we have a big fleet supporting our customers throughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. We can move it — anytime, anywhere!” That means big loads or small loads and all sorts of loads from building materials and machinery to concrete products, steel, containers, cabins and more. Les started out driving as an owner-operator before starting Les Harrison Transport Ltd and bringing truck cranes into his business. Today, he has a truck for every need from swing lift to flatdeck and hiab to curtainsider. In addition, Les Harrison Transport’s experienced drivers have the skills to properly assess sites, access and surroundings, ensuring smooth and safe pickups and deliveries. As the business has grown through the years, various companies have been added under the Les Harrison Transport umbrella. For example, the rise of container shipping led to the launch of Container Movers Limited to move import and export containers, as well as structural steel and concrete for the local building sector. This now includes their fleet of curtainsiders operating out of Hamilton, serving Auckland and Tauranga. Tauranga is home base for Les Harrison Hiabs Limited, providing hiab crane services to the Bay of Plenty, Coromandel and Hawke’s Bay regions, while Hamilton is where Container Hire and Sales Ltd is headquartered, offering containers for hire and sale. As a MAF approved transitional facility, the Hamilton team is equipped to unload and unpack imports and deliver them palletized to their final destination.
